Laboratorio de dibujo/Gesture drawing laboratory

Laboratorio de dibujo is created and directed by Roberto Silva and Elena Bylund. It is an area in wich performing art and fine art meet and create each one from their own material and tools nourished from each other. Our productions "Ofelia" and "Ofelia Interrumpida" is created with this methodology as a base.

Our core of research working as models/actors is the intersection of theatre, dance and meditation, we improvise from our own emotional state of beeing investigating the organic movement of our body, weights, motors, balance, collapse, walks, silences, environments, inmobility and stillness. Working from various topics such as textures, colors, sounds, incorporating objects, music, etc.

In the appearance of the fine art artists the proposal is to break with the clasical nude model and present a different approach: the gesture drawing does not only involve the physical movement, but also a deeper concept of essential identity, searching for what is inside of the movement, the origin of the gesture.

"I collect the emotional substance of a movement. Finding the sound inside the form. Arranging it through plastic solutions and capturing the energy of the moment, fragile, unique amd unrepeateble. It is to go beyond the action of a movement, gesture and try to get to their deepest identity." R. S

Laboratorio Escuela de Expresión Corporal Dramática

What is Laboratorio Escuela de Expresiòn Corporal Dramàtica?

Creativity is a manifestation of nature’s impulse, as Human beings we feed beyond reason; it is a consequence of inhabiting the present, of looking at and loving life. It is transgressive because it forces us to jump out of the safety in which we accommodate ourselves and start looking into the unknown.

We seek knowledge through a live experience, as a way of getting closer to the motive of recognizing our self to investigate and comprehend our own way to work, our own creative source.

The technique of L.E.C.D. is an attitude; it is a willingness to be present working at the stage and to relate to one another.

 Methodology:

  •  Body language
  • Essence (SOUL) - Presence (BODY)

This method is addressed to actors, dancers and any creative person who wishes to create from their essence. From your heart comes the first connection of being, of existence, a state of being. If we use our creativity as a choice of love we can highly overcome our limited view of the universe, we overcome our ego and connect with the divine.

The body’s expressive work and the personal growth are the basis of Laboratorio, how to create in essence. This marks the path for a complex meeting with your body, that is capable of experimenting, discover and recognize the dramatic pattern of the body and bring it to the scene, in a rigorous, poetic and righteous way.

A greater essence is a greater presence.

 Why?

  •  Develop a physical - mental – spiritual training, to fully empower our being.
  •  Focus on the body’s perception, the knowledge of the body and perception of the divine, through breathing, concentration and meditation.
  •  Investigate lines of contact on the notion of bodies and spaces.
  •  Work the body’s engines, balances, weights, collapsing/fall, silences, and walks.
  •  Improvise from the state being, from your true emotion.
  •  Get deeper into the bodies flotation, foundation, and dramatic gestures.
  •  Seek and explore the source of energy and gesture.
  •  The work material is you and your own experience. Every being, every moment is unique and unrepeatable. We can afford breaking our own limits. Everything one learns can be broken to re-create over and over again infinite times, harmonious, clear and calm.

 Beacause SHARING is revolutionary.

OFELIA

Both Rebeca Martìn and Elena Bylund has worked with Jessica Walker and her interpretation of Hamlet by William Shakespare in Laboratorio Escuela de Expreciòn Corporal Dramàtica. This is where our Ofelia was born. Only this time we are looking from the eyes of the female universe of Ofelia. Our profound motivation in this work is the continously impact on the most basic human values. Talking about values in our time requires us to start listening to our true essence. We need to question and break our masks. Ophelia serves as a mirror of today's women, whose reflection resounds directly in our hearts. Finding the essence of this woman means facing a total nudity, swimming in the waters of our personal material, because Ofelia not only invites us, but binds us to discover our true identity.

"Within this search is our death, our abandonment and our madness, this oasis and desert that life truly is. "

The theatrical narration of the facts in Ofelia is not realistic, but their presence is in our bodys dramatic language. Rebecca Martin and Elena Bylund use their body as the raw material in an open artistic expresion, facing an unknown dimension of themselves. They embody and unfold the character of Ofelia within themselves, which is fueled primarily by a state of beeing and presence. Simultaneously as this theatrical dimension Roberto Silva dedicates himself to collect the emotional substance of the human movement, and stillness. He lives as an eyewitness to capture these ephemeral images, the traces left by the ghost of Ofelia. He is Hamlets best frien and the only one to survive the tragedy, Horacio.

This is a work in pogress. The final presentation on stage as well as the exhibition Ofelia is the product of hard physical work and meditation. Rebeca Martìn and Elena Bylund`s final expression is a combination between experimental theatre and dance techniques with Roberto Silva present at every rehearsal and presentation, gathering the emotional substance of their movements. The painters result was always a cluster of pastel drawings wich he ends in an exhibition of oil paintings .
"Ophelia illuminates and enlightens our natural madness."
